Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], July 28: <\/strong>Ravindra Chamaria, Chairman and Managing Director of Infinity Group, was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate (D.Litt., Honoris Causa) by Techno India Group on the 26th of July, 2026, at its Annual Convocation Ceremony 2026 held in Kolkata. The prestigious honour recognises his visionary leadership in shaping Eastern India’s premier technology ecosystem, driving entrepreneurship, fostering institutional growth, championing sustainable infrastructure, and advancing impactful philanthropic initiatives. <\/p>\n

The prestigious distinction serves as a testament to his visionary stewardship and steadfast dedication to nation-building through sustained excellence in commerce, academia, and social welfare. During the ceremony, Ravindra Chamaria shared the stage with a distinguished cohort of co-honourees, including spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra, filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, scientist Dr. Naresh Chandra Murmu, and musician Anup Jalota. Conveying profound appreciation for the accolade, the Infinity Group team expressed sincere thanks to Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Roy Chowdhury, Executive Director Mr. Meghdut Roy Chowdhury, and the larger Techno India University community.<\/p>\n

Ravindra Chamaria\u2019s business acumen emerged early; balancing college with work, he became CEO of Ganges River Transport at age 21 and India\u2019s largest jute exporter by 27. After establishing a highly successful half-billion-dollar trading and oilfield enterprise in Russia and developing real estate in Dubai, he returned to India in 1996 to build Bengal’s digital future.<\/p>\n

He spearheaded the transformation of Kolkata’s Salt Lake Sector V by creating Infinity Think Tank in 2000<\/a>, the city’s first intelligent IT building equipped with a private 2,000-line exchange and high-speed broadband. His commitment to green building concepts later set a national benchmark with Infinity Benchmark, India’s first Platinum-rated green building. Today, Infinity Group\u2019s developments host over 500 companies and support 50,000 jobs, positioning the area as a major technology hub.<\/p>\n

Guided by the belief that life is a duty to give back, Ravindra Chamaria dedicates equal vigour to social upliftment. He has served on the advisory board of the Akshaya Patra Foundation for 20 years, contributing to its milestone of serving five billion meals to school children. His extensive philanthropic reach spans education through Vidya Bharati\u2019s 12,500 schools, senior care via Jagriti Dham in Kolkata, and various initiatives alongside The Jaipur Foot, Udayan Care, Round Table India, Ramakrishna Mission, India Autism Centre, and the Anant Education Initiative.<\/p>\n

A champion for large-scale social developments, he also spearheaded Krishna Bhumi in Vrindavan, an iconic residential township<\/a> built around what will be the world\u2019s tallest Krishna temple, alongside an upcoming 50-acre continuum-of-care senior township. Rejecting the concept of retirement at 74, Ravindra Chamaria remains actively committed to mentorship and provides matching funds to a new NITI Aayog-funded startup incubator in Kolkata.<\/p>\n

Previously, ASBM University awarded him an Honorary Ph.D. in Management for his outstanding contributions to entrepreneurship, institution-building, and philanthropy. Accepting the doctorate during the convocation ceremony\u2014attended by eminent academicians, political figures, industry stalwarts, and graduating students\u2014Ravindra Chamaria dedicated the award to the Infinity Group team, its partners, and the spirit of Bengal. <\/p>\n
